In Florida right now, there is a 13-yr-old girl who is at the centre of a court case to stop her having an abortion. The whole case is extremely stinky, but [info]talentshow has pointed to this news item about it which shows, as she says, that the 13-yr-old in question is "seriously an asskicking, fierce kid". Her responses to the judge are truly fantastic.

That is really heartbreaking.

I had an abortion back in the day, and the day I was there, an entire Latino family was there as well. Father, Mother, and what appeared to be a large contingent of brothers, uncles, aunts, and cousins. The victim was about 13 years old and resolutely did NOT want to have the abortion, and had been dragged kicking and screaming into the room. In this particular clinic, they processed more than one woman in the room at the same time, on operating tables set up in different corners of the room (talk about circus) and I *saw this entire debacle with my own eyes* and watched in absolute horror as the family literally held her down on the table against her will as they aborted her baby against her will. Poor little thing wept, pleaded, and cried the entire time.

I think I need to remind myself to write this story out in detail sometime, it's not one I think of too often.

It's sad there's so many smart kids in america, why can't the country listen to them instead of the right-wing old guys in charge.
